It is amazing what we can do if we put our minds to it. San Benito GIVES, a community-wide fundraiser, is an opportunity to support BenitoLink, your local online news. You, too, can take part in building a strong, community-based news source. BenitoLink is a nonprofit created specifically to serve San Benito County residents, but it also depends on that same community for support.

San Benito GIVES is a 24-hour event that will be held Tuesday, May 16. It is a day filled with opportunities for nonprofits to increase support through special offers based on number of donors. BenitoLink and the Mission Village Voice have joined the Community Foundation for San Benito County in hosting San Benito GIVES. However, if May 16 is inconvenient for you, donations can be made now on BenitoLink’s donation page.

As a nonprofit website, BenitoLink addresses a fundamental need: local information, provided seven days a week. Our reporters have a personal connection to San Benito County and its residents. The BenitoLink Team takes the mission of informing and engaging to heart.

Unlike our Pledge of Champions in the fall, San Benito GIVES is aimed at inviting in many donors, giving smaller amounts. Your donation, whether it is $10, $20 $100 or more, can really add up when we all join in. Your support guarantees that you’ll continue to have dedicated coverage you have learned to appreciate. Because of citizens who support BenitoLink, we can all depend on reports about our leaders in board positions, heading up local businesses and elected officials’ decisions.

We have a great team with reporters John Chadwell and Adam Breen, who cover breaking news and keep you up-to-date during emergencies, such as this year’s floods. Laura Romero and Frank Perez provide BenitoLink with critical content about local education and stories with cultural depth. We have several other general assignment reporters filling in the gaps. As the BenitoLink reporter team expands, we can give you the researched articles about important topics such as education, transportation, housing development and health care.

In addition to governmental reporting, breaking news, events, profiles, opinions and contributed stories, BenitoLink will continue to host forums, in-depth interviews and community conversations.

Over the past decade, news media has been through great change. Today, your support ensures us that we all have essential information about where we live. Support your favorite non-profit, BenitoLink, through San Benito GIVES.
