San Benito High School and the Baler Backers Athletic Organization will honor military members and first responders at the first home game of the season this Friday, Sept. 12, at Andy Hardin Field. Interactive booths will be set up around the stadium before the junior varsity game and throughout the evening so everyone will have a chance to thank hometown heroes.
Special “Haybaler Superhero Capes” will be available for $10 and the first 50 kids who purchase a cape will have a chance to be included in the pre-game festivities. The junior varsity game begins at 4:30 and the varsity pre-game show will begin at 7 p.m. ahead of the 7:30 kickoff against Palo Alto High School.
"Spending a bit of time and effort to remember all of those who lost their lives on 9/11 and recognize our brave first responders and military is the least we can do to say 'thank you,'" said SBHS Superintendent John Perales.
Boy Scouts will place American flags downtown on Friday, and the freshman football team will take part in a procession of first responder and military vehicles that will culminate with a ride-around at the track encircling the football field. The Hollister City Council on Monday presented a proclamation declaring Sept. 12 as Community Heroes Day in the City of Hollister.
