The San Benito Leadership Institute (SBLI) continues its mission to cultivate a group of diverse local leaders dedicated to making an impact on the community. As the current cohort nears the completion of their 9-month journey, SBLI is excited to open applications for the 2025-26 program year.
SBLI is a comprehensive leadership development program designed for professionals across business, nonprofit, and local government. Through interactive learning, self-assessments, and hands-on team experiences, participants build skills in communication, strategic thinking, team leadership, and decision-making. The program equips local leaders with the tools and mindset needed to create and sustain positive change in their careers, organizations, and communities.
“What sets SBLI apart from traditional leadership programs is our focus on developing equitable and sustainable leadership practices that will last a career lifetime,” said program facilitator, Dr. Kathleen Rose.
Since its inception in September 2024, SBLI has been dedicated to shaping individuals into strong, capable leaders who contribute to the growth and well-being of San Benito County. Designed to inspire civic engagement, professional development, and leadership growth, the program also offers a unique opportunity for participants to expand their networks.
Throughout this past program year, SBLI’s current cohort has been on an enriching journey, gaining insights into local government, nonprofit organizations, business leadership, and community service. Participants have had the opportunity to connect with inspiring community leaders, engage with state officials, and even meet with national elected representatives. Through interactive discussions and hands-on learning, participants have examined the challenges and opportunities facing San Benito County while deepening their understanding of leadership and advocacy.
A highlight of the program is its emphasis on applying leadership skills in both professional and personal settings. Whether advocating for local initiatives, spearheading community projects, or stepping into leadership roles with greater confidence, SBLI’s goal is for the participants to experience a growth that extends far beyond the program.
“SBLI has helped me grow personally and professionally by gaining valuable insight from my fellow cohort members and facilitators from their respective fields of expertise,”said cohort participant and San Benito County native, Andres Rodriguez. “As a public servant working for the State of California, I appreciate the guidance that I have received in order to continue developing my leadership skills and move forward with my passion for academia and apply to my doctoral program.”
As SBLI looks ahead to the next program year, it invites aspiring leaders, professionals, and engaged community members to apply for the 2025-26 cohort. The program is open to individuals from all backgrounds who are eager to strengthen their leadership skills, expand their networks, and contribute to the progress of San Benito County.
In the words of Dr. Rose, “Our program is much more than field trips and ‘chalk and talk’…it’s directly building leadership skills to face the needs of San Benito County now and in the future.”
Applications are now open, and SBLI encourages both past participants and community members to help spread the word. Whether you know someone who would benefit from this experience or are considering applying yourself, now is the time to take that step toward leadership.
