The San Benito League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) recently awarded scholarships to three students in recognition of their academic achievement, pursuit in leadership development, and active community involvement. Students were selected based on their personal vision, goals, and demonstrated acts of community service as it aligns with the nationwide and local San Benito council mission of LULAC.
The scholarships were presented by the LULAC President, Thomas Limas Welsh, and long standing LULAC member and community advocate, Joe Paul Gonzalez, during the Senior Awards Night at Hollister High School Auditorium on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
This year’s LULAC recipients are Genesis Sanjuan who is pursuing a degree in neuroscience to make in impact in healthcare; Jennifer Martinez-Garcia who is pursuing a degree in civil engineering and also model to other young women that the field of engineering is possible to achieve and Johan Zaragoza who is pursuing a degree in psychology to become a psychiatrist and promote mental health within the community.
Since its founding locally in 1987, The San Benito League of United Latin American Citizens looks forward to continuing its scholarship support to ensure that our mission to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence through community collaboration, housing, health and civil rights of the Latino population in the United States continues with positive momentum and collaboration across all communities.
