To all those who say, “I just love San Juan Bautista,” here’s your chance to show how much you really care. You are invited to join the Historical Society, the Library Auxiliary, and the City of San Juan Bautista at the annual Luck Park Open House on Saturday, October 12 between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM. In the true spirit of San Juan, this event promises to be a celebration of dedicated time, talent and treasure that the community has provided to the Library, the Park, and the old Luck gas station building which has housed the Luck Museum since 1979.
The Historical Society will present its 2013 projects, featuring new scans of historic photographs from the Digital San Juan Project, a video of oral interviews at this summer’s Lavagnino Family reunion, and more. A highlight will be the unwrapping of a 1918 issue of the Mission News! The Library will be open and will have an array of used paperback and hardback books for sale at its annual October special of $3.00 a bag. The Library Auxiliary will also have a Silent Auction table. Both organizations owe their existence to San Juan Bautista, City of History, and each is making a financial contribution to the City for much needed improvements currently underway on the two structures (power washing, stucco repair, painting). Later this fall, the City will update the irrigation system and build additional walkways, providing better access to the buildings.
City-wide organizations and non-profits have been invited to join in the festivities by setting up tables to showcase/promote their vision and major projects. If your organization is unable to participate this year, we look forward to seeing you next October. City Manager Roger Grimsley and grill crew will be barbecuing under the trees at the corner of Third and Tahualami. Share the day with your community in your park; bring a blanket, enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch on the lawn, read, or just relax and savor a beautiful, peaceful fall day in San Juan.
Invite your family, friends and neighbors to show your pride in the heart and soul of San Juan Bautista – its years of dedication from volunteers. Please consider sending a donation to the Luck Park Fund, City of San Juan Bautista, P.O. Box 1420, SJB, CA 95045. Help celebrate the past, present and future of San Juan Bautista!
