The annual San Juan Bautista Mission Fiesta, which raises money for the maintenance and restoration of the historic mission while celebrating the feast of St. John the Baptist, took place Sunday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event began with processions at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to the historic olive grove led by the Caltulli Nauhcampa dance group. Continuous, on-stage entertainment followed, including singers — traditional Mariachi and contemporary Mexican music — as well as costumed participants and a chicken barbecue.

Game booths for children were open and various ethnic food and beverage booths served guests, for whom there was no admission. The chicken barbecue was cooked over oak wood fires in large, open pits and prepared and served by Mission volunteers for $8 per plate. The annual drawing for prizes, featuring a grand price of $2,000, was another fundraiser for the Mission at the event.
