Note: Shea Homes will host a public groundbreaking event for the 20,000-square-foot private wellness social club at the Trilogy San Juan Oaks 55+ resort community on February 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The street in San Juan Oaks where Monica Martinek lives is in transition. The houses on the corner leading to her lot are still under construction,, and the finished houses have lawn signs in front of them. The houses behind hers, which her new neighbors will soon occupy, have yet to be even started.

It might be a lonely community at the moment, but Martinek is excited to own one of the 50 or so homes sold at the Trilogy San Juan Oaks 55+ development, which is in its first construction phase and includes 279 of 1,017 houses planned to be built in the neighborhood over the next ten years. She is also looking forward to the Feb. 16 groundbreaking ceremony for the new 20,000-square-foot San Juan Oaks Wellness Social Club, right around the corner from where she lives.

“It is all dirt right now,” she said, “but I am watching it take shape. You can see the outline, and it is going to be massive. We’re going to have a junior Olympic indoor pool, so I’ll be swimming six to seven days a week over there.”

Besides the pool (and spa), indoor activities at the social club will include a movement studio, fitness and strength training and a dining area. Outdoor activities will include pickleball, tennis and bocce ball. The landscaping features outdoor patios, a lawn for events and play, and garden areas.

Jason Enos, Shea Homes Area president for Northern California, said that what makes this wellness and social club different from similar clubs in other developments is the curated special programming and activities that will be offered to residents.

“We curate special programming that provides you with an opportunity to do things you love,” Enos said, “and to try things that are new for you.”

Residents have access to a virtual social hub, which allows them to see what events are available in the immediate future and plan their attendance. Different venues will offer everything from comedy nights to social activities like games or fitness classes. Residents can also add homeowner-led clubs for subjects such as reading, writing or cooking.

“In other communities,” Enos said, “they have things like golf, quilting, painting and walking clubs. And they all have taken on a life of their own. Whatever the passion of those members of that specific community bring with them, ends up being our homeowner-led clubs”

Residents also have access to the Blue Star Team, which coordinates curated travel opportunities to members of Trilogy developments nationwide.

“They will send out an invitation to residents in every location,” Enos said, “Then Blue Star handles everything from flights to hotels or cruise arrangements and will have somebody there to take care of day-to-day operations for you while you’re seeing areas of the world.”

Club Connect, another Trilogy feature, connects residents nationwide to live events like cooking and fitness training classes.

“We are offering education through this virtual connection,” Enos said. “You get to go in the club and, on a large screen, you get to engage and participate in something happening in a different Trilogy.”

Martinek said that the activities the development plans to offer are a large part of why she bought a house there.

“This is an active adult community,” she said. “It is for people who want to do things. They want to go to the gym. They want to play pickleball. They want to get out and visit with people instead of staying inside their houses. Everyone is excited to be here.”
