Tamara Pyzak wins Rabobank mountain bike

When Tamara Pyzak would get off work and swing by Rabobank to deposit her paycheck, she’d see a sleek black mountain bike sitting there looking pretty. In fact, she says she felt it was meant for her the first time she noticed it back in September when Rabobank announced its sweepstakes.

“Every time I went in, I’d give it a stroke and a wink,” says Pyzak. She is a single mom who lives in San Juan Bautista. Pyzak has worked as a truck driver for Dave Grimsley in Hollister for almost 20 years.  She says,”I have a job that I love but I am just an average bread-winner and it’s hard work.”

When the Rabobank sweepstakes started, there weren’t very many name slips in Rabobank’s metal bowl, so Pyzak thought she had a chance. She just kept coming in each week to deposit her paycheck and dropping in another ticket with her name on it. Customers had to be 18 or older to win, but were allowed to put their name in multiple times. “I really wanted that bike and I just had this feeling it was meant to be,” Pyzak says.  As the pan filled up with other names, she kept the faith.

The contest ended Nov. 15 and soon afterwards, Rabobank called.  Pyzak says she was not that surprised because she has good luck and good karma. “I had just gotten off work and I came in to pick it up. I rode it right out of the store and took it for a spin in the parking lot, then loaded it up on my car,” she says.

Pyzak says she and her 17-year-old daughter, Shyla, ride cruiser bikes around but she has her own plans for her new “Marin” bike.  “This will be my bike to get in shape,” she says.

Rabobank gave away 105 bikes to sweepstakes winners in branches all over California. The approximate value of the Marin Mountain Bikes is $450. The total value of the prizes distributed is about $47,250.
