The San Juan Bautista City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 16 to consider approval of the city's 2035 General Plan. The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at San Juan Bautista City Hall, 311 Second Street.
A comprehensive update of the city’s 1998 General Plan has been completed and will be presented at the council meeting. California law requires cities and counties to adopt a General Plan to guide future development. According to an announcement from the city, the General Plan is the foundation upon which all land use decisions are to be based. The San Juan Bautista 2035 General Plan accommodates new housing and jobs in anticipation of population growth in the county and the region through the year 2035. The General Plan includes the following elements: Land Use; Circulation; Housing; Conservation; Open Space; Noise; Safety; Economic Development; Public Facilities; Community Design; Health. (A stand-alone housing element for short-term housing needs is prepared separately.)
The environmental report prepared for the 2035 General Plan is a “Program EIR," which evaluates the implications of environmental effects resulting from the adoption of a planning document, such as a general plan. All documents related to the General Plan were approved by the city's Planning Commission at its regular meeting on Feb. 2. The commission is recommending approval by the City Council.
