Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast is proud to announce that Izel Prieto has been awarded a $5,000 Gold Award Scholarship from Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) for her exceptional leadership, service, and impact through her Gold Award project, San Benito County Migrant Resource Fair.
This national scholarship is awarded to only one Gold Award Girl Scout per council nationwide each year, recognizing those whose projects demonstrate extraordinary community outreach, sustainability, and measurable impact.
Izel’s project addressed a critical need in her community: ensuring migrant families in San Benito County have access to essential resources and services. She organized a large-scale Migrant Resource Fair, bringing together more than 20 community organizations offering vital information and assistance in health, education, food security, and safety.
Attendees were provided with free COVID-19 test kits, child car seats, first aid kits, and schedules for local food bank services. Onsite CPR training sessions empowered families with life-saving skills. Through collaboration with local agencies, the event offered comprehensive support in one welcoming space, ensuring no family left without tools to thrive.
Her leadership, vision, and commitment to service have placed her among an elite group of Girl Scouts recognized nationwide for making lasting change. The $5,000 Gold Award Scholarship is a testament to her dedication, compassion, and ability to turn vision into action.
