During the fall sports season that ended in November 2015, San Benito High School had 29 varsity student-athletes who maintained a 4.0 grade point average or higher during their season. The school this week announced the students with the highest GPA’s in each sport, which Athletic Director Tod Thatcher called “a great accomplishment.”Â
The Winter All-Academic Team is expected to be announced soon.
“These student-athletes are balancing the rigors of both their classroom work and varsity level sport participation,” Thatcher said. “It takes a special person to achieve this.”
The top fall student-athlete was varsity golfer Isabella Arreola, who maintained a perfect 5.0 GPA (which is possible on the 4.0 scale when a student takes multiple Advanced Placement classes, which offer extra grade points for A’s and B’s). Thatcher called Arreola’s classroom success “amazing.”
The following list shows the top academic performer from each fall sport (during the second grading period of the first semester).
