The San Benito High School District Board of Trustees gathered at a special meeting on May 5 to approve a $15.5 million contract with Blach Construction for the new CTE (career technical education) building on campus. The facility will be used to house the school's auto shop, metal shop, wood shop, floral shop and Future Farmers of America.
The board approved the contract unanimously with President Ray Rodriguez abstaining from the vote after arriving late to the meeting. Blach Construction will start to clear out the site on Monday. The building will be funded by Measure G bond funds approved by voters in June 2014. The $42.5 million bond funds the construction, replacement and modernization of buildings on campus.
Board members broke ground on the project May 4 prior to the contract approval.
The board's next meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 17.
