Information provided by the San Benito County Workforce Development Board.

The San Benito County Workforce Development Board (WDB) is hosting a Second Chance Employment Workshop on Tuesday, July 16 from 9 a.m to 11:30 a.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial Building at 649 San Benito Street in Hollister. To attend, RSVP here to confirm your attendance.

The seminar is designed for people who make hiring decisions within businesses, work with re-entry, or are open to new business opportunities.

Second Chance Employment means hiring those who have a criminal background and are ready to change their lives for the better. According to the WDB, employment gives people a second chance to not only make a living, but make a new life. Without employment opportunities, people with criminal backgrounds often resort to the only life they know — a life of crime.

According to the WDB, a lack of information or understanding about employing people who are justice-involved is the reason that businesses are hesitant to explore this option. The seminar is built to change the stigma around those with a criminal history and demonstrate that Second Chance Employment is powerful.

The programming developed by the Dave’s Killer Bread Foundation helps employers develop a more complete understanding of the why and how to implement Second Chance Employment within their organizations.
