On June 21, the Community Action Board held a public hearing at the Veterans’ Memorial Building to discuss the application for funding under the 2016 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and to solicit citizen input on the proposed activities to be included in the application.
The public comments from that meeting will be distributed at the next CAB meeting to be held on Thursday, July 14, at 5:30 p.m. or by visiting the CAB website or the County Agenda Portal at http://sanbenito.novusagenda.com/agendapublic.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the County of San Benito Board of Supervisors will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard in the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 481 – 4th Street, Hollister, CA to discuss application for funding under the 2016 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and to solicit citizen input on the proposed activities to be included in the application.
The County is applying for $2,000,000 for Public Services and Public Facilities under the Notice of Funding Availability for the following eligible activities:
San Benito County is applying for $2,000,000 for Public Services and Public Facilities under the NOFA for the following eligible activities:
Public Services- $500,000:
-$200,000: Shelter for victims of domestic violence
-$200,000: Operation funding of the Homeless Service Center
-$62,500: Youth activities in the areas of Prevention and intervention services in the form of scholarships to support low-income youth and children.
-Approximately $37,500 will go towards admin fees as allowed by the State (7.5%)
Public Facilities: $1,500,000 for construction/rehabilitation costs of the Homeless Service Center. The Homeless Service Center provides overnight shelter and a variety of services to the homeless community in San Benito County. CDBG funding will be used for Phase II of the Homeless Service Center to focus on the Workforce and Training Center in our efforts to support clients with job training services.
The purpose of the public hearing is to give citizens an opportunity to make their comments known on the proposed activities/application.
