September is Library Card Sign-up Month, and to celebrate, the San Benito County Free Library is conducting outreach activities throughout San Benito County during the month in order to remind community members of the many benefits one can obtain with a library card. These activities are part of a larger effort among libraries nationwide as well as the American Library Association to highlight the literacy and learning benefits that libraries provide to their communities. Â
As children head back to school, the library offers a wealth of resources that help promote student success such as computers equipped with early learning software and book collections geared towards children of different reading levels. For young adults, the library also possesses a Teen Space appropriate for studying and lounging that also features Wi-Fi capabilities.
Of course, in addition to providing services for children and teens, the library also features many offerings for adults. Besides bestsellers, the library offers eBooks, and boasts online databases for learning a new language or for taking continuing education classes. Free tech tutorials sessions are among the most popular programs for adults, and allow individuals who desire assistance or training with technology to set up one-on-one tutoring sessions with a library tech assistant.
Currently, the library is making visits to local schools, and its bookmobile will be at the San Benito County Fair from Sept. 29-Oct. 2.
The library has a little something for everyone. Anyone who has not dropped by the library in a while or is simply interested in signing up for their first free library card is encouraged to stop by and speak with the friendly staff. The library can also be contacted via email at library@cosb.us or by calling (831) 636-4107.
