Students from San Benito High School's Interact Club will spend their Halloween "trick-or-treating" for canned goods in the neighborhoods between Cienega Road and the Target store. The service club, led by teacher Becky Bonner-Leland, will donate the canned food to the Community Food Bank.
For the past week, club members canvassed a large part of the area handing out flyers to encourage residents to donate the canned goods.
"Interact's local project for this year is to help the homeless population through service and awareness of the topic," said Bonner-Leland. The club recently did a clothing drive to collect items for the Emmaus House as well as to benefit high school students who may be in need of clothing. Read the story from BenitoLink here.
"Trick or Treating for Cans is our next step in helping those in need in our community," said Bonner-Leland, who is also the varsity girls' soccer coach at SBHS.
