Shari Stevenson, San Benito County's representative for the Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Office, on Tuesday was named by the Hollister City Council as the temporary replacement for District 2 Councilman Robbie Scattini, who resigned at the end of July when he moved to District 3.

Hollister City Clerk Geri Johnson received applications from Gavilan College senior library technician Jillian Wilson and Stevenson for the vacancy, for which Mayor Ignacio Velazquez and Councilman Raymond Friend made their recommendation to the council after meeting with both applicants last week. Johnson said that in making the announcement, Velazquez and Friend said both candidates "were very good," and that they chose Stevenson because of her experience with government.

Stevenson is expected to be given the oath of office at the start of the Sept. 8 City Council meeting and begin her term.

She will fill the term for Scattini, who is running in District 3 against Karson Klauer, and will serve until November, when an election will fill two vacancies on the council. In District 2, Victoria Montoya and Mickie Solorio Luna are running for the seat.
