A small fire on a residential fence in west Hollister caused a lot of smoke on July 4 as neighbors battled it with garden hoses until fire crews arrived to put it out. The blaze broke out just after 3:30 p.m. on a windy afternoon, sending smoke eastward over the city.
Hollister Fire Department crews arrived within minutes and controlled the blaze from a vacant lot behind the home on Gabriele Court off Jan Avenue.
