A solo vehicle flipped over on Fairview Road in the afternoon of Sept. 10, sending one person to a Salinas hospital and causing a power outage near Hwy 156.
California Highway Patrol officer Moises Moncayo said a red Mustang overturned about 2:56 p.m. and hit a waterline that damaged powerlines and blew a circuit, leading to a power outage in the area. Moncayo added the vehicle landed on its roof and struck a power pole in a nearby orchard.
Moncayo said a person involved in the collision was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas. He said there was no available information on the severity of the injuries.
Law enforcement closed that portion of Fairview Road after the accident, and San Benito County Sheriff’s officials at the scene told BenitoLink it would last “a few minutes.”
Moncayo said it is unclear in what direction the vehicle was traveling and if there were other vehicles or people involved. He said that officers were still on the scene investigating.
According to PG&E, the power outage impacted fewer than 50 customers and the estimated restoration time was 8:30 p.m. as of 3:26 p.m.
According to an incident map, the majority of customers in the area had power restored by 3:45 p.m.
