South Valley Community Church presents its annual Jingle Jam for families

Hollister church will teach about joy through music, comedy skits and lessons about Jesus

For those who are looking for a place to take the kids for an evening of good cheer, games, entertainment and some treats just before Christmas, South Valley Community Church (SVCC), located at 2350 Technology Parkway, across from the Hollister Municipal Airport, is presenting its annual Jingle Jam Christmas celebration.

The event is free and for the entire family. It begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 23. Attendees will enjoy themselves, promises Alex Miranda, family pastor, who said the event is an offshoot of the church’s family ministry curriculum.

“The whole idea is for the kids to bring their parents to learn about the story of Jesus,” he said. “Jingle Jam is for Christmas and came about a couple years ago. It lasts about an hour and a half.”

Regular church members will be putting on comedy skits and there will be interactive games, high-energy music and videos, along with “Christmas snacks,” such as popcorn and s'mores.

“It’s more than a show, though,” Miranda said. “It’s an experience that families will be invited to participate in in some way.”

Miranda said the teaching part is built in throughout the entire experience.

“We will be talking about the meaning of ‘joy,’ and how we can experience it even when things don’t go our way,” he said, “and the source of joy is from Jesus. Through the host and co-host and the skits, and the worship service, everything points to learning about joy and the source of joy is through the birth of Jesus.”

The event is appropriate for all ages, though parents are reminded that they must attend with their children, as it is not a drop-off babysitting service.

“Even the 3-year-olds will be entertained by the music and the videos we have,” Miranda said. “We have humorous skits directed toward teens, young adults and adults.”

“Families will stay together,” he said. “Parents will hang out with their kids to learn about God together. This is for everyone, the churched and un-churched. It’s just going to be a great night for families to be together in a Christmas celebration.”
