On Friday, May 26 a collection of short plays written, produced, and directed by San Benito High School students will take center stage.

In its third year, the Student-Directed One-Act Festival begins at 7 p.m. in the campus auditorium at 1220 Monterey St. and features the work of students enrolled in Drama 3, a production course offered in the Visual and Performing Arts Department.

The school’s drama teacher, Kristen Porter, explained in an email to BenitoLink that the creative process began last semester when students outlined a one-act play they were interested in writing as part of their final exam. In January, the class, comprised of juniors and seniors, voted on the six they wanted to produce.

Porter added that students worked collaboratively in producing the 15-minute plays, which are part of their Spring semester exam.

This year’s One-Act Festival includes something for every theater-goer.

“There’s comedy, drama, and even a musical,” Porter stated in her email.
