Finals week is here at San Benito High School and students will take tests that are worth 20 percent of their grade. Some students’ grades seem to drop off near the end of the school semester, and a test that is worth 20 percent can really help them out if they do well. However, finals week, held Dec. 17-19, brings a lot of stress to all types of students.

Junior Dalton Neece said, “Finals week terrifies me. I dread that week very much.” He also added that he studies a lot and loses a lot of sleep at the end of the semester. “I hate that one test is worth that much of your grade. I work hard all year I don’t think it is fair to have that much riding on one day.”

Sophomore Marcus Kelly said, “I like finals week. It means that I am almost on my break.” He also said that last year he did very well and most finals helped his grade. “Maybe I am just lucky with my finals, but I study really hard to get ready.”

A lot of students stress about math finals the most. Remembering formulas from the whole year can be a difficult thing to do.

Math teacher Michelle Nelson said, “My test is 150 questions and you should be able to finish it in the time necessary. I will be here in the morning because some students need the extra time to take the test.” She added that she has a final review day that helps out a lot of her students.

Finals week plays a big part in a student’s grade point average, which colleges take into consideration during the admissions process. Students know that these tests can affect what colleges they get into and they hope to do well on them.
