While many San Benito High School students were heading home in early January and early May, hoping to relax after a full day of learning, many students stayed after school, along with their families, to receive awards and recognitions from teachers at the Division Chair Awards.
The DC Awards are presented a few times each year to students from teachers who nominate students whom they believe of deserving of recognition.
“It is important to reward students for hard work,” explained Principal Krystal Lomanto.
Well over 100 students were honored this year, with each presentation split into two days to accommodate the honorees. Students and staff were also awarded with a Baler Code Award, which is given to those who “model and exemplify characteristics of the Baler Code.” They were selected by Student Support Services and the Principal’s Student Advisory group
Freshman Katie Silva received an award from her Exploration Tech class, which she took during the first semester. Silva said that she was happy and very excited to receive it. One student, ASB President Jose Mariscal, received two awards at the January event: one from Student Activities Director Catalina Lemos and another from Lomanto.
