Now that it is officially summer, many kids in San Benito County have a free schedule pretty much every day, and could use some sort of activity to keep them busy. What options are there for kids and teens to occupy their time during the day? 

It turns out the county has a variety of summer camps and programs available for those of all ages. 

Bar SZ Ranch, located in Paicines, is a ranch camp for teens which gets them accustomed to ranch life. The one-week camp teaches caring for horses, including cleaning their stalls, feedings, and roping. The camp also gives teens an opportunity to connect with others through family dinners and nightly activities. The remaining session for the ranch camp is July 6-12. 

For the first time, Boxing Strong in Hollister will be hosting different youth boxing classes over the summer, each costing $215, or $165 for current members. In the classes, kids learn basic boxing skills and improve their agility, balance, and coordination. The remaining camp for kids ages 11-14 take place on July 21-25. There will also be one camp for kids ages 7-10 on July 14-18. 

Fusion Kids Center in Hollister has a different type of summer camp every week until the first week of August. Each camp has a theme and includes activities, crafts, games and more. Each camp is $195 per camp and camper, and there is also a field trip every week for an additional cost. Here’s the schedule for the remaining camps:

July 7-11: Ninja Camp

July 14-18: Nerf Wars Camp

July 21-25: Fantastic Witches & Wizards Camp

July 28-August 1: Hollywood Camp

August 4-6: Bummer it’s the End of Summer Camp

The YMCA of San Benito County will be hosting summer day camps at Rancho Santana School. The camps run until the first week of August, and each week has a different theme. Each day at the camp includes arts and crafts, skills development and group games. The day camp rates vary depending on the camper’s age. The YMCA summer day camps also include swim days when kids will get a chance to swim at the Baler Aquatic Center.

Hollister Artisans Mercantile is hosting various Art Camps on Tuesday and Thursday mornings through July. The camps vary from graphite drawing, mythical creatures week, and bugs and botany. Each camp costs $15. 

Christ Fellowship in Hollister is hosting a vacation bible school the week of July 21-25. Cost is $45 per child. 

JMM Dance Co., an all-abilities dance company, has multiple Dancing with our Emotions summer camps this summer. The summer camps give students a chance to explore their emotions through dance while building confidence. The final camp takes place at the Veterans Memorial Building on July 22-25.  

The San Benito County Arts Council has six summer art camps available for kids ages 6-15: sculpture, paper mâché, creating with clay, skateboard design, mixed media and paint party. Each camp lasts three days and costs $65 per student. The art camps are separated into two age groups, 6-8 and 9-15. The camps run through the end of July. 

The San Benito Stage Company is hosting its annual Summer Theatre Camp on July 14-18. The theme of the camp this year will be Jukebox Time Machine. Registration is $200. 

MB Photography Studios in downtown San Juan Bautista will be hosting a Photo and Art Explorers Summer Camp for kids ages 6 and up. There will be two different sessions, July 14-18 and July 21-25, each costing $325 per child. Students will get a chance to learn more about art and photography. 

San Benito Dance Academy will be hosting four different dance camps this summer and each camp has a different theme, including Taylor Swift, Wicked, Ocean Adventure Camp and Summer Dance Camp. Each camp is $250 and gives students a chance to learn a dance routine, which they perform for friends and family on the last day of camp. 

KJ Elite Sports in Hollister has a Fun-n-Fit Summer camp happening through July. The camp is $195 a week and happens Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the camp, kids get to play on obstacle courses, trampolines, and ziplines, participate in fitness-focused games and create crafts. 

Jamrock Culinary Arts Center is hosting teen cooking camps this summer. Each camp is three days, costs $200, and gives teens a chance to learn basic cooking skills while learning a few recipes. The remaining teen cooking camp is slated for July 14-16. 

San Benito Robotics will be having three different types of classes over the summer, Robotics 101, Robotics 102, and Electrical Engineering 101. Robotics 101 (July 7-11 and July 14-18) is an introduction to design, engineering and programming. Robotics 102 (July 14-18 and July 21-25) is an intermediate class which gives students an elevated introduction to programming. Electrical Engineering 101 (July 21-25) is an introduction to electricity, its principles, and electrical safety. Each class is $150 per student. 

There’s also a Laser Tag Summer Camp at Battlefield Laser Tag the week of July 29-Aug. 2. Campers can look forward to activities like drills, team games, a water gun battle, plus laser tag games and tournaments. The camp is for kids ages 6-12 and costs $225.
