Sun Street Centers teams up with San Benito GIVES

Our goal is simple: to provide a safe place for women and children, as they heal from addiction.

Sun Street Centers was founded in Salinas, California in 1968. Over the past 49 years, it has provided services throughout Monterey County. Sun Street Centers offers a full spectrum of addiction services including: three prevention teams covering Monterey County, a men’s residential program in Salinas, two family recovery centers (Pueblo del Mar and 7 & 9 Suns), DUI services in Seaside, Safe Teens Empowerment Program in Seaside, Salinas, and Soledad, and two sober living environments in Hollister.

Sun Street Centers model of business is based on a whole family approach, keeping children with their mothers and out of foster care. We believe in the social model detox theory, giving residents the power to change their outlook and behavior, in a social setting.

Sun Street Centers recently kicked off a three-month fundraising campaign that aims to raise enough money for Sun Street to purchase a third property in Hollister, as part of San Benito Gives. The new property, a Victorian on Sixth Street, would be used to establish San Benito County’s first drug and alcohol treatment center for women and their children.

As part of SB Gives, Sun Street Centers is hosting a campaign on Razoo, that will go directly toward funding this new residential program. Once May 16 has come and gone, donations for the building fund can still be accepted by the Community Foundation for San Benito County any time by donating to our building fund.

We encourage San Benito residents to consider donating, to ensure long term options are available for families needing help with addiction.

“Effective treatment is long term public safety.” – Ted Baraan (Chief Probation Officer – County of San Benito)
