Adoption Month is a nationwide initiative that raises awareness of the importance of adoption. Each year, thousands of children across the country join permanent families, gaining the stability and sense of belonging they need to thrive. California superior courts play an essential role in completing the adoption process because only a court can legally establish a parent-child relationship. Adoption agencies and social workers coordinate placements and home studies, and a judge must sign an adoption decree before an adoption becomes official, permanent, and legally binding.

On November 9, the Superior Court of San Benito County will celebrate National Adoption Month with the Court hosting a one-hour community event starting at 10:00 a.m. The public is invited to attend to learn more about adoption services and resources available within the community.

Throughout November, the Court will continue raising awareness about the importance of providing children with safe, permanent, and loving homes. Visitors are invited to view the Court’s Adoption Tree (a wall decal in the form of a tree) at the Hollister Courthouse, 450 Fourth Street, on the second floor outside of Courtroom 1. The tree commemorates adoptions finalized by the Court, with each leaf representing a family’s adoption journey. After adoptions are completed, families may add a leaf to the tree. The display honors adoptive families year-round, recognizing the dedication of those who help make the adoption possible, and highlighting the continuing need for adoptive parents.
