Proponents of the recall of the District 5 San Benito County Supervisor maintained a 24-vote lead after the latest batch of ballot results were released shortly after 7 p.m. on June 4.

Recall proponents led by an 857-833 vote margin out of 1,690 votes counted so far, according to county elections. Supervisor Ignacio Velazquez took an early lead on Election Night, June 2, but subsequent returns saw the recall proponents erase the lead and steadily build a lead of their own that grew to as much as 28 votes early on June 3.

Meanwhile, Auditor-Controller Joe Paul Gonzalez is behind by more than 1,000 votes while the remaining county incumbents retain significant leads over the challengers.

For the June 2 primary election, San Benito County voters were faced with electing representatives in six local contests, including the attempted recall, and considering a revision of the local cannabis tax.

For the San Benito County Board of Supervisors District 3 and 4 races, along with three other local offices, the candidate that receives more than 50% of the votes wins outright, otherwise the top two vote-getters advance to the Nov. 6 general election.

For state and congressional races, the top two vote-getters will move on to the general election.

According to the Secretary of State, counties must report the final results to the state by July 3 for them to be certified by July 10.

The following are the updated results.
