Citing concerns about excessive speed on Buena Vista Road near Calaveras School, the San Benito County Board of Supervisors recently sent a letter to the California Highway Patrol requesting additional traffic patrols "to the greatest extent possible."

In a letter approved by the board and signed by Chairman Jerry Muenzer, supervisors said members of the public have expressed concerns about traffic safety in the area, particularly with more development proposed in the area on the northwestern edge of Hollister. "In addition to comments about the need for physical improvements, such as stop signs, there were also comments submitted about the need for additional enforcement of existing speed limits," the letter stated.

At the request of the county planning commission, supervisors sent the letter in order to "bring the public's concerns to your attention," Muenzer said in the letter. County Chief Administrative Officer Ray Espinosa said this week that the Buena Vista traffic situation has been a topic of discussion at county meetings and that he has not yet received a response to the board's letter.
