San Benito County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 16-year-old male on March 5 as a suspect in the Jan. 22 robbery of Hillcrest Market at 1331 Hillcrest Rd. in Hollister.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the suspect entered the market at around 5:20 p.m. and demanded money from the cashier, while displaying a black semi-automatic handgun. The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash prior to law enforcement's arrival. Nobody was injured and there were no shots fired.
The news release from the Sheriff's Office said Deputy Casada arrived and took the report from the victim. "He obtained useful physical evidence, and began to conduct follow up on the case over the weeks since the crime. Casada was able to develop leads in the case and was able to obtain a positive identification from witnesses in the case. The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old male from Hollister."
Casada then authored a search warrant for the juvenile male at the suspect's residence on El Toro Court and Casada a team of patrol deputies from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office served the search warrant. They arrested the suspect and gathered "evidence tying him to the crime scene," according to the news release. The suspect is in San Benito County Juvenile Hall facing charges of armed robbery.
