A woman who allegedly committed a spree of carjackings starting in Hollister on Oct.17 died later that day in a Santa Clara County hospital of self-inflicted injuries, according to law enforcement.

The identity of the woman and where she lives have not been released.

According to the San Jose Police Media relations unit, the California Highway Patrol requested assistance about 11:16 a.m. with a welfare check after multiple 911 reports that a female was engaging in self-harm on Hwy 101 near Metcalf Road just north of Morgan Hill.

“An on-duty San José Police Sergeant who was in the area for an unrelated matter arrived on scene and observed the female actively injuring herself,” San Jose Police said.

Police said the female was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

San Jose Police referred BenitoLink to the Hollister Police Department for more information.

Hollister Police Sgt. Melgoza said he could not disclose any information and referred questions to the city manager’s office.

Neither Hollister City Manager Ana Cortez nor Administrative Analyst Leah Calderon immediately responded to BenitoLink’s request for information on the case.

According to a Facebook post by Javier Correa, who is known for posting fire and law enforcement activity based on police scanner information, a female armed with knives carjacked a vehicle at the Hillcrest Car Wash in Hollister.

Those reports have not been confirmed by BenitoLink.

According to Correa, the female carjacker rolled over the vehicle while driving into incoming traffic on Hwy 152 toward Gilroy.

After getting out of that vehicle, the woman carjacked a sedan when a male victim was stabbed in the neck. It is unclear the severity of the reported injury or the victim’s condition.

Correa reported that law enforcement blew out the vehicle’s tires with spikes between Morgan Hill and San Jose on Hwy 101. The female driver crashed near Hwy 85, he posted.

The female suspect then carjacked another vehicle with kids inside but the parents were able to get the children out, according to Correa.

Law enforcement were able to apprehend the woman after she got out of that vehicle near Metcalf Road and walked along the highway while stabbing herself, Correa posted.
