The National Civil War Association and San Benito County Historical Society are offering a limited number of local community members an opportunity to spend an evening with the Civil War re-enactors during the annual Civil War Days at the San Benito County Historical Park on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 7-10 p.m.
The evening will be a rare opportunity to experience life during the 1860s, including "contra dancing" in the new Dance Hall and interacting with the re-enactors at their encampments. Contra dancing was the most popular form of dance in the U.S. until the 1870s, when the Quadrille became popular. Both of these dances contributed to modern-day square dancing.
Music will be provided by one of the top Contra Bands in the area, The Crabapples. Vintage sodas, beer, wine, and water will be available for sale in The Cottage Bar. Fifty tickets will be available at $20 per person. For more information or to reserve a spot, contact Don Pidd at 831-902-9349 or by email at caretaker@sbchistoricalsociety.org.
