The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants feud could easily be classified as one of the biggest rivalries in baseball. For more than 125 years, legendary baseball icons such as Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, and Sandy Koufax all were part of the rivalry. Today, the rivalry still lives on with great baseball players such as Adrian Gonzalez, Buster Posey, Matt Cain, and Yasiel Puig.
The two teams have played against each other more than any other team in baseball: a record 2,356 games. Although the Giants have won more World Series titles than the Dodgers and more games against them, Dodger fans are optimistic.
Sydney Parker said that she “Believes in the Dodgers,” and that they can “Come back with a World Series win this year.”
Madisyn Erickson, a Giants fan, said that her favorite team is too good for the Dodgers and that they won’t be able to beat them this year with Giants pitchers like Ryan Vogelsong and Madison Bumgarner.
With the season just starting, the Dodgers are faring better then the Giants, who are in last place in the National League West.
Freshman Jack Breger said that he is looking forward to an exciting year for the Dodgers, who have picked up new players such as Jimmy Rollins and Howie Kendrick. The players helped the Dodgers win their first series of the season 2-1 against the San Diego Padres.
The Giants won their opening series over the Arizona Diamondbacks, but have struggled since then.
Freshman Lauren Sabbatini said, “I am excited to watch the Giants play again this year as the defending champions, and excited that I can tell all of my friends who are Dodgers fans that they are the defending champions.”
“The Dodgers have better players then the Giants,” Jack Breger claimed. “They can play under a lot of pressure, and the players they picked up this season will be a big help in beating the Giants.”
Fans believe it will be interesting to see how the season pans out between the reigning champions San Francisco Giants, and the revamped Los Angeles Dodgers. The two teams play 19 games against each other this season. The Giants won the initial series at AT&T Park in San Francisco between the teams this year.
