Bolado Park was buzzing with activity Friday during Day 2 of the 92nd annual San Benito County Fair. It was Senior Day, which followed Kids' Day on Thursday and preceded Military Appreciation Day on Saturday.
The Board of the 33rd District Agricultural Association is partnering with the Pinnacle Quilters of San Benito County to celebrate the service of military veterans through the Quilts of Honor program, which will provide hand-crafted patriotic quilts to approximately 40 veterans during a 9:30 a.m. ceremony Saturday at the fair's main stage.
"This is the second year we will be honoring our veterans who bravely served our country," said Fair CEO/Manager Donnette Carter. "Last year it was truly a moving ceremony. We appreciate the partnership of the women who have spent countless hours contributing to this project. I encourage everyone to come out to the fair early Saturday and join us in thanking deserving heroes.
The opening ceremony for Quilts of Honor will be the presentation of colors by the local VFW, to be followed by the distribution of quilts with the reading of each veteran's name, military branch, and time of service.
Bolado Park Event Center Youth Ambassadors will present and wrap the quilts on the shoulders of the veterans. The public is invited to view the ceremony on a day in which all active and former military personnel will receive free admission to the fair with proper identification.
