An early morning house fire on Prune Street displaced three elderly residents on Feb. 13, leaving one in critical condition.
According to a recent release, the Hollister Police Department and Hollister Fire Department were dispatched to a house fire located on the 900 block of Prune Street around 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Officer Stephen Frates was the first public safety officer to arrive on scene. He reported the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Two individuals that live nearby were coming home from work and noticed the fire, the release said. They called 911 and had already assisted an elderly man and woman out of the home by the time Officer Frates arrived. A third woman had already made it out on her own.
The fire department arrived to battle the fire and keep it from spreading onto neighboring homes. An ambulance transported the elderly man to the hospital, where he was reported to be suffering from the effects of burns and smoke inhalation, the release said.
The American Red Cross responded to assist, as well as Adult Protective Services to care for the displaced individuals until family could be notified.
According to the release, the home appears to be a total loss. The San Benito County Fire Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the fire at this time.
