At around 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, the driver of a black Acura traveling west on Shore Road lost control of the vehicle, which crossed into opposing traffic and collided with a white Sedan. Three of the four teenagers in the Acura died.
Norbert Saldana, who was sitting in the right front passenger seat and Brianna Sanchez, the driver of the white sedan, survived but are in critical condition. Adam Lobbell, public information officer of San Benito County’s Sheriff’s Office, told BenitoLink that they were flown by helicopters to hospitals outside San Benito County.
All of the victims are Hollister locals. The accident is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
“We extend our condolences to those affected by this tragic event,” CHP’s Area Commander Captain Noel Coady said in a press release.” Coady concluded with a harsh warning: “Obeying traffic laws is every driver’s responsibility, with profound consequences when ignored.”
A BenitoLink reader, who follows police scanners, sent us a message yesterday saying a caller reported that a vehicle was speeding on Shore Road before the accident.
