Trail Fire contained near Thousand Trails campground

Local rancher initiated fire suppression.

Wildfire season got underway in San Benito County on July 16 with the now-contained Trail Fire.

According to the Cal Fire San Benito-Monterey Unit, the wildfire started at approximately 2:30 p.m. It burned 14 acres and began near the Thousand Trails campground. Campers at Thousand Trails evacuated when the fire started to spread.

Local rancher Bryan Granger told BenitoLink he was first on the scene with a water truck and started putting out the blaze, which was moving toward Fox Creek Ranch

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Blaire Strohn

Blaire Strohn was a popular and vivacious reporter for BenitoLink. Blaire passed away Sept. 25, 2019 after doing her best for years to heroically ignore the limitations of Cystic Fibrosis. Despite these challenges, she was a graduate student at Oklahoma State University focusing on International Agriculture. Blaire also graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelors Degree in Agriculture Communications. Born and raised on a cow/calf operation ranch in Paicines, Blaire was passionate about the agriculture community and western way of life.
