At about 3:30pm, a truck and trailer traveling from the Monterey County side of San Juan Grade/Salinas Road had it's trailer leave the road. The driver suffered minor injuries from the accident. The trailer was fully loaded. The truck's 55 gallon fuel tank had emptied, but it was not determined how much fuel had leaked.

Recovery crews awaited the arrival of a unit to recover the trailer from the side of the hill.

There is no passage over the summit, though local traffic can get through. The road is expected to remain closed for several hours during recovery operations.
