California Highway Patrol (CHP), Hollister-Gilroy Area officers are investigating a crash that occurred Friday morning in an unincorporated area of San Benito County. The crash resulted in the death of a 36-year-old male resident of Salinas.
On January 30, 2026, at approximately 7:10 a.m. a Dodge coupe and Honda sedan crashed within the roundabout along State Route 156 at Bixby Road, in the CHP Hollister-Gilroy Area. The driver of one of the involved vehicles suffered minor injuries, while the driver of the other vehicle was killed. Preliminary investigation indicates the driver who was killed was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

“The importance of wearing a seatbelt can’t be overstated,” said CHP Hollister-Gilroy Area Commander, Captain Noel Coady. “Buckle-up for your safety. Failing to do so is not only against the law but can lead to tragic consequences. Our thoughts are with family and friends of the decedent.”
