Tyler Oakley is a colorful-haired, 25-year-old YouTube personality who has accomplished so much. He hosted the Grammy Live Stream, had a meeting with President Obama, starred on Joan Rivers’ Web series, won two Teen Choice awards, celebrated his seventh year on YouTube, and hit six million subscribers.
San Benito High School senior Elissa Rodriguez, an Oakley subscriber said, “He is queen. I love him!” Oakley is a Michigan native whose mother’s name is Jacky Oakley and is referred to as “Queen Jacky” on his channel. She supports all that he has been doing with his life, and is frequently referenced in his videos. Jacky helped with the start of his channel by giving him the support he needed.
Recently, Oakley released a podcast called, “Psycho Babble,” which he does with his YouTube peer, Korey Kuhl. They discuss queer politics, pop culture, and joke around a lot.
Senior Lilia Burdett a fan of Oakley said, “I think it’s really good. I listen to his podcasts when walking to school. He makes me laugh.” As well as managing a YouTube channel, Oakley is an advocate for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) youth and deals with social issues such as healthcare, education, prevention of suicide with the LGBT youth, and for gay rights.
