Shortly before 11:00am on Thursday, July 18 the Union Bank in San Juan Bautista was robbed by two, or possibly three individuals. The robbery was described by San Benito County Sheriff Darren Thompson as an “takeover” style robbery. He saidno one was injured during the incident. On Wednesday, business owners and employees in the area had noticed two, or three individuals, who seemed to be doing street maintenance work for the city, but their clothing and their manner of working drew suspicions.
The suspects remain at large. There is coordination between the San Benito Sheriff’s Department, the Salinas Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. There is speculation that this robbery may be connected to several in the area.
