The Annual United Way Gala, held at The Barn by Leal Vineyards in Tres Pinos on Oct. 13, was a tremendous success. Over 150 guests gathered in support of United Way and their mission to improve children’s success, family financial stability and good health access for all our residents.
Sylvia Jaime, event co-chair and UWSBC Advisory Board President, thanked this year’s sponsors, welcomed guests, and introduced the Gala Committee and Board Members. Vicki Fortino, UWSBC Coordinator, addressed the crowd with highlights from the past year, and was excited to introduce Julissa Leggett, a high school student who shared her story of resilience and personal growth through the Girls, Inc. program at the High School. Girls, Inc. is a funded partner program of UWSBC.
The event raised over $70,000 to help support local non profit partners of United Way. “We are so grateful to our corporate sponsors and guests for the tremendous support for United Way! Our community has really rallied behind our mission, and is very generous in supporting our work.” said Vicki Fortino, Coordinator for UWSBC.
In addition, United Way serves as the Kick-Off Event for the 12 Days of Giving. This ‘fund-a-cause’ raises matching funds for the five essential service nonprofits that need a little extra help during the holidays. This year’s 12 Days of Giving recipients are CASA, Chamberlains, Community Food Bank, Emmaus House
and Sun Street Center. Over $12,000 was raised at the event.
