On June 26, a beautiful Friday morning, this photographer/reporter toured Hollister Municipal Airport with Airport Operations Supervisor Adam Bocanegra.
First, we stopped by his office where he showed me how everything functions and how to stay safe when going outside onto the airport field.
I learned that at the airport, everyone wears safety vests at all times, so pilots flying know you are there.
While on my tour, Travis Smith, from Hollister Soaring, a glider business working out of the airport asked me, “Do you want a ride in a glider?”
So, the next thing you know, Smith was showing me how to put on the glider seatbelt and soon the sailplane was pulling us up into the sky.

There were some great opportunities for pictures while I was up in the sky. My favorite part was catching a shot of the turbo roundabout on Hwy 25 and seeing the city of Hollister.
Moving more slowly than a normal airplane allowed me to really soak in the amazing vistas.

Gradually, we started to come down. I did not like the turbulence!
It was fun having this experience and I want to thank Adam Bocanegra and Travis Smith for giving me the opportunity. It was a very special experience and I would be happy to go up again and take photos anytime.
