Two inmates who escaped from the Santa Clara County Main Jail on Nov. 23 were captured this week. One of the men, 33-year-old Rogelio Chavez, had been staying at the Days Inn on Leavesley Road in Gilroy as recently as Sunday, when sheriff’s deputies arrived after the San Jose resident had fled. He was captured Wednesday night in a house in San Jose.

Laron Campbell, 26, was captured at his sister’s house in Antioch on Tuesday.

Chavez, Campbell and two other men on the day before Thanksgiving apparently sawed through the steel bars of their second-floor window in the south wing of the Main Jail on West Hedding Street, then rappeled down on a makeshift rope formed from bed sheets and clothing, according to the Mercury News.

The two other inmates were caught shortly after the 11 p.m. jailbreak, but Chavez and Campbell continue to evade capture. Both men are considered extremely dangerous.

According to The Mercury article, Chavez was booked in August on charges including burglary, extortion, false imprisonment, resisting arrest and firearms violations. Campbell had been in custody since February 2015 on charges that include robbery, false imprisonment, criminal threats and firearms violations.
