San Benito County Planning Commissioner Valerie Egland is running for San Benito County Supervisor District 2 in next year’s election. Egland said she filed paperwork to run with the San Benito County Registrar of Voters on Friday, May 24.
“Although regretting that Anthony Botelho will not run for this office again, I welcome the opportunity to further serve San Benito County in District 2,” Egland said. Botelho said earlier this year that he would not seek reelection.
Egland currently serves on the county planning commission. She was appointed to serve on the San Benito Couty Parks and Recreation Commission in January 2015.
“Prior and concurrent to these appointments, my county involvements include the COG Bicycle/Pedestrian Committee, the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce Green Committee, and REACH San Benito Parks Foundation,” she said. “My formal education consists of a degree from San Benito County High School, B.A. from UC Santa Cruz, and Master of Art/Sculpture from San Jose State University.”
The candidate’s list of priorities includes community involvement, infrastructure, health and wellness, business and our nonprofit sector, education and open space, and agriculture. She said she welcomes public conversation.
“There is a lot to act on as we move our county forward,” Egland said. “I am ready, willing and able, engaged and looking to the future with the community! Thank you, in advance of your vote, no matter who you choose!”
