A van struck a utility pole on Highway 156 between Hollister and San Juan Bautista on Monday afternoon, April 17, causing a traffic delay while emergency crews attended to the scene.
According to the California Highway Patrol's website, the report of the single-vehicle accident on eastbound 156 came in just before 1 p.m. Monday. A utility van hit a pole, breaking the pole in half, causing a portion of it to land on the shoulder.
Other vehicles stopped to assist and reports came in that a "ball of fire" was reported coming from a Pacific Gas and Electric pole on Mission Vineyard Road, possibly from a power surge.
It was not immediately known how many people were in the involved vehicle and whether there were any injuries.
