Hollister Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 is hosting multiple events for Memorial Day on May 26, including its traditional flag ceremonies.
The veterans organization is also looking for volunteers to help place flags at veterans’ graves and along cemetery roads on Saturday and Sunday, May 24-25.
VFW Hollister Post Commander Ernie Ramirez said it’s important to honor Hollister’s veterans.
“It’s always an honor for us to remember them during not just Memorial Day, but all the time, especially those that lost their lives in conflict,” Ramirez said. “As you know, we lost nine from Hollister during the Vietnam War.”
On May 24 at 10 a.m., the VFW and volunteers will be putting small flags on each of the veterans’ graves at IOF Cemetery, where there are about 1,000 veterans’ graves.
At 9 a.m. on May 25, the VFW puts out larger flags to line the roads of each of the cemeteries.
There are multiple events on Memorial Day. There are memorial services starting at 9 a.m. at IOOF Cemetery and at Calvary Cemetery at 10 a.m.
At 11 a.m., the organization will host a ceremony in front of the Veterans Memorial building. Families of veterans killed in conflict will speak at the ceremony. The VFW is hosting an $18 tri-tip lunch after the ceremony.
