San Juan Bautista adventurer Jim Ostdick's walking journey across America had him resting in the Washington, D.C. area on Friday, March 4 after completing the first 160 miles of his journey.

Ostdick's walk is meant to raise awareness and funding for a planned recreational trail in San Benito County. He reported to BenitoLink that he is "tired but happy."

"The next 160 miles or so are on the historic C&O Canal Towpath from Georgetown all the way to where the ADT (American Discovery Trail) heads into West Virginia," he said. "This will be a beautiful stretch."

Ostdick encourages locals to follow his journey for R.E.A.C.H. Across America by following his blog, which shows his east-to-west progress across the nation on a daily basis — as long as his Internet connection allows for posting.
