WikiWiki, a new Hollister restaurant owned by Zimo and Jackson Yuen, features meals with a Hawaiian and Asian flair.
The Yuens moved to Hollister three months ago, they say, because of the climate, the friendly people and the opportunity to open a restaurant in a town with limited restaurants, according to Zimo.
Zimo, a graduate of the Academy of Arts University in San Francisco, and Jackson, an information technology professional, left a three-year residency in Mountain View for the new venture in Hollister.
“We have a really good team,” Zimo said about her two creative kitchen cooks and six young women greeters/waitresses.
The menu consists of food reminiscent of Jackson’s Hawaiian background and Zimo’s Asian origin.
“We have freshly made food. None of the food is ever placed on a back burner,” Zimo said, noting that some people may question the name of the restaurant, which means "quickly."“We chose the name when we traveled to my husband’s Hawaiian hometown and looked for a name that would be unique and catchy.”
As for the menu, Zimo said “teriyaki chicken is the most popular item on the menu.”
Other meal options include Hawaiian beef stew, soy sauce chicken, Hawaiian spare ribs, minced pork with egg, Tonkatsu pork, chicken salad, kalua port, and loco moco. Prices range from $5.95 to $7.95.
Wonton soup and wonton noodle soup, also on the menu, are $5.95 each. All portions are large.
Creative snack options include popcorn chicken, French fries, onion rings, a curry fish ball, spam Musubi, garlic shrimp, egg puff, fried squid and chicken drumsticks.
There is a whole page devoted to drink specialties, including green and black milk tea, smoothies, slush and optional drink toppings, including boba and jelly. The menu also offers several flavors of snow ice and toppings.
The restaurant, at 341 Tres Pinos Rd., features Zimo’s artwork on a wall mural, with other walls painted white. Everywhere you look inside the restaurant reflects Zimo’s artistic interior design talents.
Zimo said she has another idea for a possible mural, a personal story in pictures about how the couple met and where their life journey has taken them so far.
