“We have great news to share!”  stated Pat Loe, the board president of The Homeless Coalition of San Benito County. “We want the community to know of the extended days of operation of the Winter Shelter for single adult homeless residents through April 15.”

“With a potential for even more rain due to El Niño into April, our homeless community will continue to be served by the Coalition’s many volunteers for two additional weeks. We offer a warm bed, showers, a hot dinner, breakfast and a lunch until April 15,” said Loe.  “We could not offer these added weeks without the gracious support of our community, the United Way ‘12 Days of Giving’ and the Community Foundation of San Benito County. Every year, there have been so many in the community who donate time, clothing and finances to our program.”

Shelter Manager Michelle Diaz applauds her staff and the volunteers as they have served an average of 18 guests nightly at the shelter. “We had many individuals and groups willing to keep preparing and serving dinner into April. It shows the amazing teamwork of our community to help those in need. We are thankful for the Southside Labor Camp facilities made available by the Farm Labor Association, allowing the two extra weeks of the Winter Shelter.”

The Winter Shelter opened this season on Nov. 15, 2015, which it has done every winter from November to March for 10 years.
