‘Write Where You Are’ brings poetry to library

Free youth poetry workshop held at San Benito County Library

Approximately 20 participants attended "Write Where You Are," a free youth poetry workshop featuring award-winning author Tim Z. Hernandez on  May 1 at the San Benito County Free Library

This creative writing,bilingual event was sponsored and funded by Poetry & Writers, the California Center for the Book, the James Irvine Foundation, and the Friends of the San Benito County Library. Youth that participated in the writing exercises included 10 middle school students who walked from the Calaveras School after-school CASA Program, four youths from the PAL Mentoring & Leadership Youth Program and six adults. For three years, Hernandez, the author of Breathing in Dust, has conducted free poetry workshops at the Si, Se Puede Learning Center at the Villa Luna Apartments in collaboration with the county library.
